🚨⚾️ SPECIAL BEER RELEASE ⚾️🚨
Introducing our THUNDER DOME BELGIAN TRIPEL
9%ABV
31 IBUs
It’s time to take YOUR All-Star Break ⭐️ into Paddlefish and grab this homerun of a brewski.
During the 1987 World Series, loud and proud Minnesota sports fans earned the Metrodome a new name... “The Thunder Dome”.
Clocking in at 125 decibels, comparable to a jet airliner and close to the threshold of pain, the fans were electric as the Minnesota Twins took home their first World Series title.
Spicy, sweet, clove-like, complex, and uniquely tasty; Thunder Dome Belgian Tripel is as strong as a Minnesota sports fan’s loyalty, as bold as a World Series Title, and as powerful as the wind tunnel leaving the Metrodome ⚾️💨
🍻 What’s tappening this week! 🍻
🎉 Oh and hey, it’s our 6 month anniversary tomorrow! 🎉 Come celebrate with Doc E’s BBQ Food Truck, Trivia at 7 and Buy One Get One 50% Off allll day🍺🍺
Bringing the Black IPA back to life!
🕳️ Below the surface of Saint Peter lies hidden
history and secret spaces. Underneath the Engesser Brewery building you will find a tunnel running beneath South Front Street. Historians believe it was most likely used for beer storage and movement between the beer cellars and their ice house. Some long-time locals have their own theories...the truth? We may never know. 🕳️
What exactly is a Black IPA?
In short, it’s a typical IPA recipe, but it uses some darker malts. These malts not only bring the color to the beer, but also more roasty, toasty, caramel and even chocolate or coffee notes to the beer. This, combined with a heavy dosing of hops, is what creates these unique beers.
🍺 Our Black IPA uses Dark Munich Malt and Roasted Barley with a mix of Hallertau hops (for a spicy-herbal, complex aroma), Fuggles hops (for a crisp, earthy woodsy flavor), and East Kent Golding hops (for a smooth and delicate lemon and thyme bitter finish). 🍺
🌊 💪 Highlighting the 99 Bridge over the Minnesota River 💪 🌊
Located only a few hundred feet from our taproom, we realize just how important this historic Broadway Bridge is to our space, especially as the recent flooding has caused it to close along with other roads and bridges leading into and around St. Peter.
Here are some fun facts about our Broadway Bridge:
• Built in 1931: This bridge has been standing strong for nearly 100 years, making it a testament to the engineering and architectural styles of the early 20th century.
• No stranger to flooding: In one of the following pictures you’ll see how similar the current water level is to the historic 1965 flood. Other notable flood years (1908, 1993, 2010)
• Rehab Project: In 2017, the bridge underwent a significant rehabilitation project to preserve its historical integrity while enhancing its safety and functionality.
• Connecting Communities: The bridge serves as a crucial link between the east and west sides of St. Peter, facilitating smooth transportation and connectivity within the city.
• Steel Truss Design & Cultural Significance: Its distinctive steel truss design not only adds to its aesthetic appeal but also showcases the engineering techniques of its time. It’s also a cherished part of St. Peter’s heritage, often featured in local events and community activities.
🍺 Even though there are several road closures around the area and it’s currently a bit of a detour labyrinth to get to our taproom, we are still OPEN! 🍺
📖 Thank you for taking part in our history lesson today 📖 Have any other fun facts about the bridge? Feel free to share!
Stay safe out there and see you in the taproom!
“Sooo why Paddlefish??” Introducing one of our most frequently asked questions in our taproom!
When initially looking for a brewery name in St. Peter, we stumbled across an article with a picture of a guy holding a giant paddlefish (Jared Holland, first pic). After reading the article, we went down a paddlefish rabbit hole and the rest is history…
• Apparently, the paddlefish love chillin’ near the Highway 99 bridge, just a couple of blocks from our brewery. We learned that in Oct & Nov of 2021, the DNR studied the paddlefish population in Minnesota (Mississippi, St. Croix and Minnesota Rivers) and found that roughly half of the MN paddlefish population are living in and around St. Peter.
Once we realized no one has a brewery named “Paddlefish”, we were off to the races and kept learning fun things about them…
Fun facts:
• Paddlefish are the oldest surviving animal species in North America, older than dinosaurs. Their ancestors lived in North America about 125 million years ago.
• Adult paddlefish have no predators, so they usually live for more than 20 years.
• The name paddlefish comes from Greek and Latin words meaning “many teeth” and “spatula”.
• Paddlefish may be among the fastest growing fish in North America rivers.
• They can be found in streams from Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico as well as river drainages as far west as Montana and as far east as Pennsylvania.
• You ‘snag’ a paddlefish, not ‘catch’ it. In the state of Minnesota, it is illegal to snag a paddlefish with intent and it must be released with least possible harm. All of these photos are under this category, just FYI! However, there are several states that have a snagging season, including Iowa, South Dakota, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma and a couple of other states.
• In March of 2024, the largest paddlefish ever snagged was a 164 pound, 13 ounce fish caught in the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri!!
If you have a photo with a paddlefish or know someone that does, send it our way! These will be framed and put up in the hallway where our restrooms are located!
If you’re wondering, Jared (the guy holding the paddlefish in the article, also first pic here) is a regular here!

🪵 🪓 SPECIALTY BEER ALERT 🪵 🪓
Introducing our (Paul) Bunyan Hops American IPA, available on tap this week!
ABV 6.4%
53 IBUs
We brewed this one in Paul Bunyan’s honor, because nothing screams ‘lumberjack’ quite like an American IPA.
We packed a piney and floral aroma into this brew, reminiscent of a stroll through the dense forest, just like Paul was used to. A solid, clean and fresh hoppy taste with Centennial and Chinook hops, and a hint of malt in support, this IPA is sure to make you want to chop some wood and split a beer in half.
We’re open our normal Wednesday—Sunday hours this week, with TRIVIA starting next Wednesday, April 10th @7pm!! See you in the taproom!
Spring into our taproom this week! It’s the FIRST day of spring AND it’s the FIRST day of our 10 barrel batch! It’s an exciting day!
